First Time on Western Slope:  Chaffee County Solar Home Tour:

Residents toured select homes in Salida where homeowners have installed solar energy systems and made other improvements to make their homes more sustainable.   Homeowners, volunteers and representatives from solar installers Peak Solar Designs, Renewable Energy Outfitters and Colorado Solar Energy were available to explain smart “green’’ home features.

The tour will began at the Salida Farmer’s Market, at Alpine Park, on September 14. Tour sponsor New Energy Colorado hosted a booth featuring a variety of energy efficiency measures that homeowners can install at little or no cost. Check out our Press Release here:

The Denver Metro Green Homes Tour has been in the Denver area for twenty-five years, with similar events in all fifty other states. This year’s self-guided tour coincides with the National Tour of Solar Homes and features homes that demonstrate a wide range of strategies from remodeling options to full-on passive solar design to an entire community focused on clean, efficient energy. Spend an hour or a full day exploring both new homes and homes that have a history of performance in Arvada, Denver, Golden & foothills, Littleton, and Westminster.

Nearly every day we read or hear about new and evolving technologies that can help us save money in our homes while being environmentally responsible. Options are plentiful and questions inevitably arise. What is right for me and my home? Can I do this now or do I have to plan for it? Is it cheap and easy or more involved? Do I have to change my lifestyle? Our Metro Denver Green Homes Tour lets you speak directly with proud efficient homeowners, see and experience what they have done, and get all your questions answered without spin or pressure, so you gain the real-world facts, from the source, to make decisions that are best for you today and tomorrow.

The Metro Denver Green Homes Tour is an event organized by New Energy Colorado, a 501c3 non-profit corporation, and your admission cost is tax deductible. See you on the Tour!

Golden Earth Days, Now New Energy Colorado increased community awareness of renewable energy and transportation options and encouraged active sustainability through the home tour. The annual tour is part of the National Solar Tour coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society in collaboration with dozens of outstanding partner organizations. It takes place annually during the first Saturday in October in conjunction with National Energy Awareness Month.

Golden Earth Days won the Sustainability Award for Community Group for the City of Golden in 2014.

Last year in recognition of shared goals and in the interest of combining resources, Golden Earth Days merged with a project working on solar education to create New Energy Colorado.
